Privacy

The privacy and security of your personal information is very important to us. We will not disclose it to anyone except with your consent or if the law require us to.

Reference to ‘We’ ‘Our’ ‘Us’ and ‘the Society’ in the section are to Yorkshire Building Society trading as Chelsea Building Society and the Chelsea and Norwich and Peterborough and N&P.

Yorkshire Building Society decides what personal information we need to collect about you, how we use it, who we share it with and how long we keep it. This makes us the data controller of your personal information for data protection purposes.

How we use your personal information

Personal information is any information that can be used to identify you or another living individual either on its own or together with other information available to us. We collect personal information to offer our products and services and to deal with you as a customer

We will respect your rights to privacy and will only collect, use, store and share your personal information where a lawful purpose applies:
- It’s necessary for the performance of a contract you have or have requested to enter into
- If we have a legal obligation to do so
- If we have a legitimate business interest where it does not have an unfair impact on you
- Where it’s in the public interest or we have been given official authority to do so.

We will only use, keep and share your personal information as required to meet our legal and regulatory obligations or to deal with your enquiry, administer and manage your accounts, products and relationship with us and/or for us to manage your role as attorney/court appointee .  After this time, we will delete your personal information in line with the requirements of the Financial Conduct Authority, Prudential Regulation Authority, Money Laundering regulations, Financial Ombudsman Service and HMRC and any other regulatory bodies.

What Personal Information do we collect?

  • Name and contact details to invite you to join research activities
  • Date of Birth so we can analyse feedback by age
  • Feedback provided during activities to improve products and services we provide


What do we do with your personal Information when you become a My Voice Member?

The purpose of My Voice is to facilitate the provision of feedback by a cross-section of customers who choose to take part in research activities (including but not limited to surveys, polls, discussion rooms) on YBS Group companies.

You will be contacted by us and/or our third party community provider or any other third party research provider we appoint. They will contact you by email in connection with My Voice.

The results will be used to improve the products and services we provide. You can also choose to contribute to discussion forums and opinion polls.

You can be removed from My Voice membership at any time. To unsubscribe from the My Voice community all you need to do is email hello@myvoice.ybs.co.uk with the subject line 'UNSUBSCRIBE'.


Sharing and Transferring Your Personal Information

We may disclose personal information to (i) our external auditors and regulatory bodies including the Financial Ombudsman Service and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and (ii) associate companies, agents and service providers, market research agencies and providers of information technology services.


Our relationship with Other Organisations

We share relevant information with associate companies, agents and service providers to administer the My Voice service and research, All companies we work with are assessed for adequacy of their security controls. .

  • Have your personal information corrected if it is inaccurate or incomplete
  • Object or restrict to the processing of your personal information

  • Move, copy or transfer your personal information also known as ‘data portability’
  • Challenge automated decision making including profiling, which is the automated processing of your personal information to evaluate certain things about you.
